New Delhi: MP Congress Rahul Gandhi and other opposition leaders held a parade outside the parliament building this morning to protest a sudden end to the Monsun Lok Sabha and Rajya session Sabha, and the attack on the parliamentary members above.
Apart from Mr. Gandhi, those who attended the parade including the Head of the Sharad Pawar NCP; Rajya Sabha’s opposition leader, Malikarjun Kharge; Sanjay look for Shiv Sena, and others. After the march they went to the residence of the Chairperson of Rajya Sabha Venkaiiah Naidu to file a complaint.
“Today we have to come out here to speak to you (media) because we are not allowed to speak in parliament … this is the killing of democracy,” Gandhi said quoted by Ani’s news agency.
“The first time in Rajya Sabha … Parliamentarians were beaten, pushed around. The chairman said he was upset … so was the speaker. But it was their responsibility to ensure the function of the house. Why can’t they do their work?” He asked.
“The parliamentary session ended. The 60 percent of the country is worried … There is no parliament. The 60 percent of the country has been insulted, humiliated and yesterday, in Rajya Sabha, physically beaten,” Gandhi added.
Sanjay Raut, a member of Rajya Sabha, stated that the alleged physical bullying of parliamentarians, including women, “feels like we stand on the Pakistani border”.
“The opposition does not have the opportunity to present their views in Parliament. The incident yesterday against women’s parliamentarians opposed democracy. It feels like we stand on the Pakistani border,” he said.
The Minister of Parliament Pralhad Joshi has called the opposition allegations “truly wrong” and said that the facts can be checked by seeing CCTV footage.
On Wednesday – in the midst of a chaotic and naughty scene at Rajya Sabha, because the government issued amendments relating to insurance bills – some female parliamentarians accused them physically intimidated by male marshal when they protested in home wells.
Sharad Pawar then slammed the government, saying that in a parliamentary career covering 55 years he had never seen his female colleagues attacked. “It hurts. This is an attack on democracy,” he said, adding that more than 40 Marshal Rajya Sabha had been deployed.
The Chief of the Whip Congress at Rajya Sabha, Jairam Ramesh, then also accused the amendment to be passed after large security forces were placed in the hall.
“The government refuses to send it to a particular committee … requests by all opposition parties including those close to BJP. What happened (later) was worse than terrible,” he tweeted.
Parliament, which began July 19 and is scheduled to end on Friday, declared closed yesterday after fierce protests from the opposition force some daily delays.
A united opposition has been unrelenting in his attack on the government in the past week, raising problems such as the Pegasus cellphone hacking scandal, farmer protest and rising fuel prices.
Protests range from speeches and marches outside the parliament to full clashes inside, with parliamenters jumping on the table, throwing files, rushing the well of the house and waving black cloth.
Yesterday Rajya Sabha Chairman Venkaiiah Naidu seemed to be destroyed when he read a statement that condemned “blasphemy” and violations of “democratic temple” by the opposition.
Explain the center of the house as “holy holy sanctuary sanctorum”, Naidu said: “I was depressed by the way he was destroyed yesterday.”
Speaker Lok Sabha Om Birla expressed similar crowds: “The house must be run according to the tradition of parliament … sloganeering and maintenance of banners is not part of our tradition.”
The government has slammed the opposition because it intentionally extended business; Modi’s prime minister had twice attacked, accusing the Congress of the Protest Engineering and insulted parliament.
