New Delhi: Among millions who congratulate the Chopra Neeraj for winning the Indian First Olympic gold in athletics is the legendary sprinter P T Usha, who missed a place on the podium in 1984 matches.
Ms UHA, called “Payyoli Express” because of the star speed on the track, has been close to winning a medal at 400 M obstacles at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics.
In building up to games, Ms. Usha raised hopes by winning a silver medal in Sprint 100 m and 200 m in the 1982 Asian game in New Delhi.
In the Asian championship next year, he set his first Asian record and won gold in 400 m.
After this achievement, he turned to 400 m obstacles. At the 1984 Olympics, he raised hope by defeating our favorite Judy Brown in the semi-finals.
The 400 m Hurdles event must be back after Debbie Flintoff Australia, starting next to Ms. Usha, accidentally began prematurely.
When the race began, Ms. Usha began to be slow but immediately took steps. The race ended with a photo finishing as Cristiea Cojocaru Romania adds Ms Usha by what is called the Olympic website as “a decisive dip”.
He then went to win gold at Asian Games and Asian Championship. Padma Shri Awardee now runs the academy in Kerala for beginner athletes.
Even though it was narrowly lost in a place at the Podium Olympics, MS IHHA inspired the future generation of Indian women’s athletes who had gone to make the country proud on the world stage.
