How to Recruit Bands for Your Live Music Night

Whether you’re hosting a party or trying a new themed night for your bar, a live music night can be a lot of fun!  Not only does live music cause more people to attend, it ensures that while everyone is there, but they also have a great time.

These are the top tips to recruit bands for your live music night!

Get Word of Mouth Out, and Go Searching

Although many bars and clubs assume that all they have to do is put up some fliers or a post on social media: if you want to gather musicians, you have to get to work.  Getting the word out is thoroughly useful because it means you can gain more artists and spread the word that this event is happening.

Post on all social media you have, get the word out on gig sites, and research ‘entertainment near me.  If you have the chance to, try to speak to other bars or clubs that have had live entertainment in recent months and ask if they have any great referrals that were a pleasure to host.

Don’t Wait Until the Last Moment!

The worst thing you can do is wait until the last moment.  Most great acts get snatched up the moment they’re available, so it’s important to start searching at least a couple of months out.

The further out you set your search, the better chance you’ll have at finding someone that’s available.  If there’s a band you absolutely must have, and you haven’t booked anyone else, consider reaching out to them before you set a date so that you can work around their schedule.

Seek Out Bands That Match Your Gathering’s Vibe

Consider what types of sounds work best with your gathering.  If this is for a biker bar, you probably won’t want something poppy and cutesy, just like you wouldn’t want a death metal band at a kid’s birthday event.  Think about the relationship between the music and the people that will be attending.

Of course, some crowds may surprise you! For example, a group of older adults may be really into Hyperpop, despite its new and youthful style since it just got coined in 2018.  If you’re not sure what they’ll want, put out a poll.

Offer Perks Like Free Drinks For Performers

Besides the pay they deserve, offer other perks for performers like free drinks, gear from your bar, and even tip jars while they’re performing.  These will boost their interest in your event and will give you the chance to gain their favor.

The more the performers like working with you, the higher the possibility that they’ll want to work with you again or have a high opinion of you.

Your Music Night Deserves the Best!

Even if your event is a one-time deal, it deserves the best there is. So seek outperformers that suit your needs, give your audience what it wants, and create a night people will remember for decades!

After all, a music night with multiple live performers is going to be hard to forget!
