Wellington: China’s authority on Tuesday denied making a large-scale hacking of Microsoft servers, describing allegations of US allies as “plant plants” and “irresponsible”.
The United States and several allies have accused in public China hacking Microsoft Exchange – email platforms used by companies around the world.
In China’s first official response, embassy in Australia and New Zealand issued a statement of fiery rejections.
The Chinese Embassy in Wellington illustrates the allegations as “really without the basis and irresponsible” and “evil smear”.
Canberra embassy accused Australia “parrot” US rhetoric and described Washington as a “world champion of the evil cyber attack”.
Administration of President Joe Biden has accused China to foster “the ecosystem of the criminal contract hackers who carry out state-sponsored activities and virtual world crimes for their own financial benefits”.
The attribution of sophisticated cyberattack is technically difficult and politically full – so the rare decision by US allies to blame the Chinese public has been expected to bring a sharp response.
“Given the virtual nature of Cyberspace, one must have clear evidence when investigating and identifying incidents related to cyberspace,” said the Chinese Embassy in New Zealand.
